Specs and plans
Turn an intent into a spec before code, design a bespoke workflow for large work, and keep a decision trail you can audit later.
Specs with plan-spec
you > /agent-kevin:plan-spec draft the creator signup flowplan-spec interviews you until every coverage area is settled, then writes a standalone spec your host's planning mode can execute. A spec for code carries a Design section: the caller's usage first, the data shapes derived from it, at least one structurally different alternative and why it lost, the tradeoffs accepted, and a screen against the design red flags. Every task in the breakdown names the check that proves it done: a test, a command and its expected output, or an observable result. Open questions and the full interview log stay attached as provenance.
Plan first, in plan mode
For any non-trivial task (three or more steps, or an architectural decision), Kevin plans before building and uses your host's plan mode where it has one. If something goes sideways mid-task, it stops and re-plans instead of pushing through.
Large work: figure it out
When no playbook fits (a migration across many callers, an ambitious multi-part change, work you'll review after stepping away), Kevin designs the workflow first:
- a definition of done you can falsify;
- the scope, quantified;
- a rigor level that's higher for one-way doors;
- verification built before the work, with a baseline captured first;
- units sequenced riskiest-first.
Each unit is an experiment that's kept if it moved the predicate and reverted if it didn't. A verdict is verified, not verified, or inconclusive, and inconclusive is never a pass.
The decision log
Long or unattended runs keep a TSV trail, one row per decision: time, phase, decision, why, an evidence pointer, and the result. It's append-only, so a wrong call gets a new row rather than an edit. Before handing back, Kevin audits the log against what actually happened, has a second model scan it for weak evidence or skipped checks, and ends the handoff with an Attention section for you to read first.
